Dear Panther family, Over the last several weeks, the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has required Georgia State University—and each one of us in the Panther family—to make fundamental changes to most aspects of day-to-day life. I commend our faculty, staff and students for their commitment and adaptability during this unprecedented and disruptive period. In the midst of all this, I have been inspired by how many of you—alumni, faculty, staff and friends—have asked how you can best help Panther students. The most immediate and impactful way you can make a difference in the lives of Georgia State students is by donating today to the university’s Emergency Assistance Fund, which directly aids students in need of food, housing assistance and other essentials. Coronavirus-related disruptions and closures to workplaces and community organizations have financially imperiled an untold number of Panther students who rely on part- or full-time jobs to support themselves and their households. Sudden job loss has many of them struggling to make ends meet, and successfully managing their academics under these circumstances can become extremely difficult and secondary. While the days and weeks ahead are full of uncertainty, Georgia State remains committed to the health and safety of our students, faculty and staff, as well as the principles that have made us a national model for student success: adapting, innovating and providing students with resources and supports to help them succeed. Thank you for all you do for the Panther family. I hope you’ll join me in making a meaningful impact on the lives of a growing number of Georgia State students in need by donating to the university’s Emergency Assistance Fund. |
